In the present work, study is done on treated and untreated effluent of Jaipur Dairy. This sample is taken after and before Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) Treatment. Effluent samples are collected after and before ETP treatment from Jaipur Dairy and Physico chemical properties like Temperature, Turbidity, Total Dissolved Solids, Salinity, Conductivity, pH, BOD and Color are studied. Genotoxicity and Cytotoxicity analysis of samples is done to know the efficiency of ETP plant in lowering genotoxic and cytotoxic levels. Two methods are use for analysis Ames assay (Salmonella/ microsome reversion assay) and Saccharomyces cerevisiae respiration inhibition assay. On comparing, it was found that there is decrement in Inhibition percentage in case of Saccharomyces cerevisiae respiration inhibition assay and Mutagenecity ratio at higher dose (100μl) is coming out to be less than 2 in case of Final sample(after ETP treatment) when calculated by Ames Assay. If genotoxic Dairy sludge and effluent is discharged without treatment can create huge environmental problems. After treatment this watery effluent discharged can be used for gardening purposes, while a proper and usable alternative should be researched for oily and greasy sludge discharged. ETP treatment at Jaipur Dairy is efficient in removing genotoxicity and Cytotoxicity.
