Antimicrobial and Phytochemical Analysis of Nymphaea Nauchali Leaf Extracts

Abstract

The hexane,ethyle acetate and methanolic extracts of Nymphaea nauchali. were evaluated for antimicrobial activity against clinically important bacteria viz. Staphylococcus aureus(MTCC 3160), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC9027), Bacillus subtilis (ATCC 6633), Escherichia coli (ATCC 35218), Enterococcus faecalis (MTCC 439), Xanthomonas campestris (MTCC 2286), Streptococcus mutans (MTCC 497), Lactobacillus casei(MTCC 1423), Lactobacillus acidophilus (MTCC 495), Candida albicans (ATCC 10231). The in vitro antimicrobial activity was performed by agar well diffusion method. The ethylacetate extracts of Nymphaea nauchali leaf extract were active against all the investigated bacterial strains.
