AbstractTinda (Praecitrullus fistulosus), also known as Indian round gourd or apple gourd, is a vegetable found in South Asia, especially in cultivated areas in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. Although its role in the kitchen and in nutrition is undeniable, it remains an almost neglected research topic. This review describes Tinda's botanical properties, nutritional profile, health-promoting properties, and issues affecting its cultivation and commercial sale. Furthermore, we elaborate on the possible uses of Tinda in functional foods and sustainable agricultural systems, with the intent to promote it as a potential crop for future food security.
